Wise parents will recognize the protective power of regular family prayer. President Kimball taught: “No mother would carelessly send her little children forth to school on a wintry morning without warm clothes to protect against the snow and rain and cold. But there are numerous fathers and mothers who send their children to school without the protective covering available to them through prayer—a protection against exposure to unknown hazards, evil people, and base temptations.”

President Kimball, quoted in “No Substitute for Family Prayer,” Ensign, Feb. 2001, 25

“He (God) will feed us, ... He will clothe us, ... He will shelter us. We know that He watches over us. We know that His angels are round about us, and that nothing occurs but, in His providence, if we do right, will be controlled for our good and for our eventual salvation. He will let no trial descend upon us without giving us strength and grace to endure it, if we will live so as to obtain it. This is His promise to us. And God is bound irrevocably by His covenant to us.”

George Q. Cannon, Salt Lake Tabernacle, August 6, 1893; see Collected Discourses 3:330 and Gospel Doctrine 1:170

Power to avoid deception

President Ezra Taft Benson “The Book of Mormon —Keystone of our Religion” October 1986 General Conference

“It (the iron rod) was the word of God; and [note this promise] whoso would hearken unto the word of God, and would hold fast unto it, they would never perish; neither could the temptations and the fiery darts of the adversary overpower them unto blindness, to lead them away to destruction.” (1 Ne. 15:23-24) Not only will the word of God lead us to the fruit which is desirable above all others, but in the word of God and through it we can find the power to resist temptation, the power to thwart the work of Satan and his emissaries.

This is an answer to the great challenge of our time. The word of God, as found in the scriptures, in the words of living prophets, and in personal revelation, has the power to fortify the Saints and arm them with the Spirit so they can resist evil, hold fast to the good, and find joy in this life.

President Benson - Ensign, May 1986, Priesthood Leadership Meeting, p. 79 - “The Power of the Word.”

The most powerful weapons the Lord has given us against all that is evil are His own declarations, the plain simple doctrines of salvation as found in the scriptures.”

You shall not be deceived.

President Harold B. Lee (In Regional Representatives’ Seminar, 1 Oct. 1970, p. 6.) quoted by President Benson - Ensign, May 1986, Priesthood Leadership Meeting, p. 79 - “The Power of the Word.”

“I will go before your face. I will be on your right hand and on your left, and my Spirit shall be in your hearts, and mine angels round about you, to bear you up.”

Richard G. Scott - Fireside Address at BYU, June 3, 1990 - “The Fruits of Obedience.”

“Our only safety is in obedience to the laws of God. You need not fear the clamor that is now being raised against us...this spite of the world ......we are in the hands of God.”

President John Taylor - Journal of Discourses Vol. 23, Discourse 4
